SUPERPETREL 100

PETREL on the ramp.

After only 60 m on step!

Airborne after only 100 m!

In the air,

...and going round.

Who wins the race?
SUPER PETREL 100
The lightes, reliable and best performing amphibian in it's category!
GENERAL
The
SUPER PETREL is a Brazilian developed aircraft, and is a successful evolution of
the yet famous and world approved PETREL, with more than 10 years of customer
satisfaction and success. More than hundred aircraft were built and are flying
all over the world. The innovative modifications and changes made to reach the
PETREL LS make this new aircraft significantly more stable, reliable and the
performance increase is superb.
CONFIGURATION
Amphibian, ultralight or VLA certificated, biplane with positive decalage. This configuration, beside being beautiful and elegant, provides a strong and efficient structure.
CONSTRUCTION
The
aircraft
presents a very reliable and excellent weight/resistance ratio,
corrosion
resistance and plasticity, due to the composite materials used to build it, like
Carbon, Fiber, PVC foams, epoxy resins, etc. These materials are combined with
advanced techniques of construction, adequated to each component and structure.
Also are used aeronautical aluminum alloys, like the 6061-T6 and 2014-T6, and
stainless steel in many parts and hardware, specifically for corrosion
enviroments, like seawater. All stainless steel and aluminum parts are cut with
laser or water pressure. The oleo shock absorbers are filled with nitrogen, and
are used with hydraulic brakes with discs on the wheels. The coating and
finishing is on polyurethane paint.
AERODYNAMICS
The airfoil used in the wings is a NACA 24012, the same used on the famous and efficient Cessna 182 Skylane. This airfoil is famous due to it's very predictable and balanced behavior in all flight conditions. Add to this the neutral characteristics of the center of pressure (CP), that makes the flight conditions near to the same of a medium wing airplane. We have a very stable, docile airplane, with the best performance in it's category. The stabilizer and control surface have an airfoil as profile, thus giving docile and precise controllability in all speeds and turns. The retractable landing gear contributes to the flight harmony.
HYDRODYNAMICS
The hull and fuselage shape were optimized,
providing safe operation, avoiding the aircraft's nose submersion in water
take-off and landings. The hull is built with materials and technology used in
off-shore boats, providing facility and strength for operation in wavy water. It
can safely absorb bad water landing impacts and some bad operation maneuvers in
water. The lower wings also have the function of deflecting the water spray away
from the propeller, maintaining it's integrity. This makes the operation safe in
dirty water or places with some floating solid residuals.
ENGINE
The only available powerplant is the very reliable ROTAX 912 ULS / S engine with 100 HP. The engine mount and the vibration absorbers are designed to lower engine noise and vibration level, minimizing the noise in the cockpit. Only composite propellers are used: fixed pitch, CS, or reversing for comfortable water operations.
SPECIAL FEATURES
